As one of the earliest founding schools with the most complete disciplines and strong faculties in Shandong University, School of Energy and Power Engineering set up two undergraduate majors in 1958: Thermal power engineering and Internal combustion engines. In 1981, we were one of the first to be approved by the State Council to award master degrees in Engineering Thermophysics and Internal Combustion Engines. The School has established a complete teaching system that covers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral education. Under School of Energy and Power Engineering, there are Energy and Power Engineering as State-level Characteristic Discipline, Energy and Environmental Systems Engineering as School-level talent training base. The school owns Master’s degree, Ph.D program and post-doctoral station in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, In addition, Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics is one of the key disciplines in Shandong University supported by “Project 211” and ”Project 985”. Furthermore,we have three key disciplines of Shandong Province: Power Machine and Engineering, Engineering Thermophysics, Thermal Power Engineering. Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics is selected in the first Characteristic Disciplines of Peak Program (Shandong University) and also in the construction plan of First-Class Subject Group.
At present, the School has more than one hundred teaching faculty, among whom, 24 people own senior professional titles and 35 people own deputy senior titles. The School holds 19 doctoral tutors, including 1 Chief Scientist of National 973 Project, 2 “Yangtze River Plan” Super Scholars, 1 National Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions, 2 members of National Millions of Talent Projects, 1 Distinguished Professor of Taishan Scholar, 3 members of New Century Outstanding Talent Support Program and 5 State Council Experts for Special Allowance.
Until now, the School has won 2 Second Class Prizes and 1 Third Class Prize of the State Science and Technology Advancement Award, 2 Second Class Prizes and 2 Fourth Class Prizes of the State Technological Innovation Award, 2 First Class Prizes and 3 Second Class Prizes of Science and Technology Advancement Award of State Education Ministry, 16 First/Second Class Prizes of Science and Technology Advancement Award of Shandong Province. Therefore,our school wins more national awards comparing to the other schools in Shandong University.
The School has 1 National Engineering Laboratory (Reducing Emissions from Coal Combustion), 1 Engineering Technology Research Center of State Education Ministry (Environmental Thermal Process), 1 Collaborative Innovation Center of Shandong Province (Thermal Science), 1 Key Laboratory of Shandong Province (Carbon Emission Reduction Technology and Resource Utilization), 1 Engineering Laboratory of Shandong Province (Energy Saving of Thermal System in Power Plant) and 3 Engineering Technology Research Center of Shandong Province (Heat Transfer Process, Industrial Ecology, Combustion and pollution control).
The research fields in School of Energy and Power Engineering mainly include theory and application of heat transfer enhancement, clean combustion and pollutant emission control, thermal energy utilization and energy saving, internal combustion engine and new energy automobile, refrigeration and cryogenic technology, new energy development and utilization.
